❈ What I Teach
Yoga - I'm teaching Vijnana yoga. My teacher explains on her website "Vijnana Yoga was founded in 2003 by Orit Sen-Gupta, a student of Dona Holleman, in collaboration with longtime yoga teachers, and continues the yogic tradition of Sri Krishnamacharya and his students BKS Iyengar and Pattabhi Jois". My classes are based on yoga postures (asanas) sequences, which are the main part of the class, starting with short sitting meditation and breathing exercises (pranayama). The class will be adapted according to participants' skill sets. Older adults, pregnant women and people with disabilities will be able to practice with modified versions of asanas and pranayama.
Kum Nye (Tibetan Yoga) - Kum Nye is a practice based on traditional Tibetan healing knowledge that incorporates breathing and movement exercises, meditation and self-massage. Kum Nye relaxes the body and mind, opens the senses, improves energy flow and inner balance, and promotes healing.
Tarthang Tulku, the teacher who introduced Kum Nye to the west, writes in the preface to his book Kum Nye Tibetan Yoga:
"Kum Nye Tibetan Relaxation is a gentle healing system that relieves stress, transforms negative patterns, helps us to be more balanced and healthy, and increases our enjoyment and appreciation of life.
Kum Nye heals both our bodies and minds, bringing their energies together to function calmly and smoothly."
The class will be adapted according to participants' skill sets. Older adults, pregnant women and people with disabilities can practice Kum Nye with modifications as needed.
Movement-Improvisation -The class begins with warm up movements, stretching and strengthening exercises. It continues with a theme that inspires movement and creativity both individually and as a group. Themes are taken from different art modalities (e.g. music, paintings, photography), nature, shapes and colors, sounds, different types of body movements, sensations, emotions, ideas and more. Participants are invited to freely express themselves and reconnect with their vitality and inner joy. No previous experience is required.
